Sharing Hope and Humanity in Hungary
On the third stop of the Wrestling for Peace 2025 Global Campaign, USA Wrestling coach Chris Brown and Wrestling for Peace (W4P) Ambassador, George Porter, led the way, joining the Hungarian Wrestling Federation for a week of humanitarian action and international solidarity. From the hospital halls of Budapest to the wrestling mats of Tatabánya, they saw firsthand how sport connects, heals, and inspires.
The journey began on October 6th at the Hungarian Wrestling Federation headquarters, where Team USA was welcomed with open arms. Together, U.S. and Hungarian delegates signed 200 Wrestling for Peace (W4P) posters — each destined for a young patient at Bethesda Children’s Hospital. Then, with gifts in hand and hearts full of purpose, they made their way to the hospital — not just to deliver toys and supplies, but to share a message of hope.
At Bethesda Gyermekkórház, the W4P delegates visited children in recovery rooms, therapy spaces, and rehabilitation units. They handed out posters, bracelets, and toys, but the most meaningful exchanges came through shared smiles and simple moments of human connection.
W4P ambassadors also presented a $5,000 donation to help with requested hospital needs, including six months of dog therapy in the Mental Health Department and surgical scrubs for the National Burn Surgery Center
It was an honor to stand beside an institution doing such life-changing work, and to let their staff and patients know they’re not alone.
On October 10, 2025 during the Greco-Roman Veteran’s World Championships, W4P took center mat for a special presentation to the Tatabánya youth wrestling club. In a gesture of lasting support, W4P presented the club’s coach with a complete set of custom singlets for their youth program — designed for both boys and girls and featuring the club’s logo. Each young athlete also received a W4P bracelet, a signed poster, and sport-specific training tools, including shot pads and resistance bands.
The appreciation was heartfelt and the pride in the room was palpable — a local club lifted by a global gesture, and young wrestlers reminded that their future matters.
From hospital beds to competition mats, this week showed the wrestling community what W4P is all about: showing up, reaching out, and believing in the power of sport to make a difference. As the 2025 Global Campaign completes its final stop in Serbia this month, the team at W4P is aware more than ever that peace isn’t abstract. It’s built through connection, empathy, and action. And together, we’re wrestling for it.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO GUIDEPOINT SECURITY FOR THEIR GENEROUS SPONSORSHIP OF THE 2025 GLOBAL CAMPAIGN.
